Korean culinary show ‘Bibap’ to entertain Jakartans in November
The Korean culinary-themed musical performance Delicious Musical Bibap is set to be held at the Ciputra Artpreneur in South Jakarta on Nov. 11-13.
Based on the Korean traditional dish bibimbap (rice mixed with vegetables and beef), the show presents a brand new style of non-verbal performance over its 80-minute duration.
Bibap members perform as if they are cooking the dish combined with acrobatics, martial arts, b-boys, beat-boxing and acapella performances. “There will be a storyline,” said Lia Hubu, the marketing manager of Yes24 Entertainment Indonesia, one of the event’s promoters. “And the set will be in a kitchen or cooking area. The show will be entertaining, therefore children and adults can watch it without any language barriers.”
Bibap was previously staged in Jakarta in 2013 and 2015. “But it was for a limited audience,” said Yes24 Entertainment Indonesia director Lee Jun Ho. “This time the show is open to the public.”
According to the Korea Tourism Organization, Bibap marked its debut in 2009 and has entertained Korean culture enthusiasts ever since. It has its own routine show in Seoul, South Korea and has been watched by 60 million people in 25 different countries worldwide. It participated in the Edinburgh Fringe Festival, Scotland, in which tickets were sold out. The team that performed in Edinburgh is similar to the team that will entertain Jakartans in the upcoming show. The starting price for tickets is Rp 350,000 (US$27). (kes)
